The color of your walls is just like the color of your world. This is where you spent your leisure time and that is why, you want your walls to look perfect. But after certain period of time that wall color will fade away and then you realize that your walls need to get repainted. You are tempted to pick up the brush and finish the paint job as soon as possible, but hold on, before getting started you need to understand few painting tips for walls and trims. Yes you read it right, walls and trims, it is the combination. If the color of your walls and trims does not match, then either You might end up painting again, which will be a burden on Your Pocket or You have to live with those mismatched colors for at least couple of Years.

But with some basic painting tips for walls and trims, you can have the picture perfect interior. You don’t need to learn some kind of rocket science to paint your house, but yes you need to understand from where to start and where to finish. You might not be an expert in Painting, but wants to do the job on your own; these tips are just for you.

Paint the Wall First

Ok, this can be a bit tricky, because there are many people who says that, you should start with the trims, tape them and then paint your ceiling and walls. But everyone has their own perspective, for amateurs it is always better to start from top to bottom, as Trims are easier to clean and if you’re painting them first or last they still needed to be cleaned.

So I suggest you to Paint your wall first, however if you want to avoid the cleaning of the trims you can still tape them. Before you start painting, it is must to clean the walls, and apply a base of primer over the walls. Primer helps to have the nice adhesion between the surface and paint and also increases the durability of the paint.

After doing the primer, now your focus should be on painting the walls. Make sure you start from the outer edges of the walls and then come inwards, this way you can have better cohesion and finish. You can apply single coat or double coat that is totally your choice, but after the base of primer, one coat of paint works just fine.

Painting the Trims

Once the walls are painted then you should work on the Trims. If there are any damages or holes, first they needed to be filled up with speckling compound, with the help of the flexible putty knife.  Use the primer to cover-up the bare wood and filled up areas, so there won’t be any visible spotting when you paint.

After finish this repair job comes the painting part, before starting the paint job, You should apply the painters tape along the wall trim edge and level it up by pressing it down with the plastic knife, that helps you to paint more freely on trims.

You should have the paint in the small bucket to avoid any spill, and once you dip the brush in the paint don’t forget to wipe the bristles to off-load the extra paint against the edge of the can. For trims, it is always advised to use to the Oil paint as it takes time in drying and gives you ample time to brush. Also oil based paints levels up more smoothly than the water based paints, which gives a smoother finish and look.
